Drew Anderson - QB1
« on: October 03, 2017, 12:38:54 PM »
I know the saying is that you don't lose your spot to an injury.  I think Drew is doing a great job so far.  If Tyree does not get back soon, and Drew continues the play he has shown, you will have a mini Troy Aikman - Jamelle Holieway scenario (I said mini!).  Troy transferred to UCLA.........hope no such fate befalls UB :-)

If Drew stays on his game, I think UB needs to stay on Drew.

Drew played awesome coming out of the bullpen in the FAU game.  I saw nothing in the Kent State game that would make me think he will unseat Tyree.  He managed the game really well and got the W so that's the main thing.  I'd like to see him put some zip on his passes occasionally.  They love calling the fade routes for him.

Assuming Drew Anderson plays vs. WMU and NIU....  if he leads UB to one win in those two games and plays well, then we will definitely be having a conversation.

Tyree is our starter when he's healthy. Period.

Drew has been very good and I'm thrilled but let's not go crazy.

Considering that he (Tyree) is not back yet, and Drew is building a resume, I am not sure I share your confidence about Tyree as the presumptive starter.............wins have a funny way of changing views.

Think about it for a minute.....Troy Aikman.......couldn't win his job back from Jamelle Holieway.......Jamelle just took them to a national championship........Troy couldn't stand being #2......he left.............Everybody thinks about Troy and UCLA/Dallas......now if Drew can take UB bowling for the third time?????

Tyree needs to learn touch.........Drew just needs to keep winning................we will indeed have a QB controversy, and the crowd will lean to Drew if the wins keep coming.  That's football.

I don’t know what Tyree’s health status will be next weekend but I don’t know how you bench a guy a week after setting the single game passing record.

Ok I’m ready for the conversation, lol

Drew Anderson has to be the starter now. No question. He threw for 430+ yards even before Ot...against maybe the best team in the MAC. That included what, 6-7-8 dropped passes?!?

It sucks for Tyree if he is indeed healthy, but it’s college football (ie he’s not Brady or Aaron Rodgers).  He’s not THAT good that his job is 100% secure no matter what.
If Drew falls on his face in future games then sure, you bring Tyree back in.

For now Anderson must be the starter.

Yeah wow. He got 600 yards and 7 TDs. Imagine you had him on your fantasy team?

He also rushed for a TD and caught a 2pt conversion ;)

Tyree would have had very similar stats in that game...Tyree is the starter.

Drew has done a commendable job but to not play Tyree when he is healthy could lead to disaster. Imagine if Drew starts the remainder of the year, does well but we go 6-6 or 5-7. Then, do to frustration, Tyree transfers...just as we are starting to build. You cant let short term success get in the way of long term progress.

What happens if we put Tyree in and Drew transfers?  Drew only has one less year of eligibility.

I am inclined that LL is leaning towards short term success. 2015 was disappointing. 2016 was embarrassing.
So, thunder through, Go Blue! Give a Cheer, never fear!

Your first statement is not factual.  You have no proof of that.  On the contrary, a more compelling argument by a Freshman HS speech and debate student could be made that the opposite of what you claim is more likely.

The second statement...that's up to LL.

At first, I thought that Drew Anderson was just a serviceable backup.
But after this weekend's game, obviously we're all changing our tune.

The big question is, Is Drew Anderson a special talent?
He had some questionable throws the first couple weeks.  But the game against Western showed that he can pretty much make every kind of throw.  He can zip the ball in tight space.  He can make those timing pattern throws.  He can lob the ball in.  He's also pretty nimble on his feet.  Actually more so than Jackson.

So what do you do here?  Man, LL has a very tough decision on his hands.  I would guess from the looks of it, Jackson is still a couple weeks away.  He was walking with a visible limp on the sidelines.

I think the fear of kids transferring out is real here.  I would hate to lose either of these guys.  Well, I guess it's a good problem to have, but choosing the wrong guy and having the other guy transfer out could really set us back.
