** User Submitted Blogs/Stories/Articles **
« on: August 18, 2009, 06:00:24 PM »
I love the fact that we have some talented writers/bloggers on our site but lately it seems that every other thread is "read my new article". From now on if people wouldn't mind, please post links to your new posts in this thread. This isn't aimed at anybody in particular and isn't meant to deter from posting at all. In fact, I think that there may be more reception of the pieces in this thread as they will not be quickly lost to the next page. Comments on the articles should be made at the site of origin.

If people hate this idea PM me, maybe we can try something else.

For now, if people are still posting links I will merge them into this thread and make any modifications needed, if people blatantly ignore, I'll just delete threads.

Thank you in advance.

I will delete all posts here that do not follow this format:

Know your foe: Week 2 Pittsburgh

http://bull-run.blogspot.com/2009/08/know-your-foe-week-2-pittsburgh.html

While this game may be winnable it's not a game UB should count on having when Bowl selection time comes. If the new front seven UB has on defense are everything we expect them to be they may keep us in the game, But Asking Maynard and the offense to exceed what the Bulls did last year may prove too tall task

Means is quickly becoming one of my favorite players on the team and he hasnt even played a down yet....thats crazy.  Even if he is half as good as the hype, hell be a great player.  The coaches are right, Means well be an absolute beast if he gets himself up to 250-260 pounds, im excited to see how he pans out.

Why Culture is important to a program
« Reply #5 on: August 20, 2009, 12:50:24 PM »
A great article in the Buffalo news toady by Rodney McKissic highlights why UB football is moving in the right direction and, I think, why UB Basketball is moving in no direction at all (my conclusion not his)

One thing you have to love about Turner Gill is the culture he has brought to UB football. While fans and media alike can not seem to talk about the 2009 Bulls without focusing on the 2008 edition both the Coaching staff and Players they have developed are focused only on the task ahead.

Know Your Foe - UCF
« Reply #7 on: August 21, 2009, 03:55:00 PM »
http://bull-run.blogspot.com/2009/08/know-your-foe-week-3-ucf.html

The initial mission of UCF was to provide highly-trained personnel to support the Kennedy Space Center, which has a lot to do with their first mascot the Citronaut. It's widely suspected that the Citronaut is the love child of the Otto the Orange (Syracuse Orangemen Mascot) and The Great Gazoo (Flintstones Character).

Rivals posted their MAC preview on the 19th:

Change is the Name of the Gaem in the MAC
http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=977394

MAC Unit Rankings
http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=977394

Tom Dienhart at Rivals may be the only media guy that picks someone other than UB amd Temple to win the East. BGSU? He is very high on Sheehan for some reason, and he thinks their offense will be electric. He rates their new coach Clawson as #4 in the conference...ahead of Brookhart (who actually has won the MACC), Golden (Rising coach who is not a newb) and Kill (who went to a bowl and had a defense to get them there). Winning the East with a new coach and only 1 returning starter on defense? Think about it: A defense that will be worse than the one that chocked at home against us will suddenly bend but not break enough to help win the East? Rivals has BGSU with the #13 D line, #12 LB's, #12 DB's.

UB's unit rankings look just about right to me except the D-line ranking of 12th. Dienhard says, "There is work to do with three starters gone from what was a solid line." Solid? Did he not look at our run defense stats and sack totals last season? Our tackles were good but our ends were slow and, bless his heart and will to play through everything, Andrae Smith was held together with duct tape. This season there are upgrades in size and speed at both positions. I'd tab our d-line a bit higher in those rankings.

With the UTEP kickoff fast approaching I passed a few questions off to Joe Muench from UTEPIA (El Paso times). Its a good read to keep up with UTEP football, a nice fan site but he is not a homer. FYI He has UTEP winning by 6.5...

Great Post Jenk.  I think you summed up what alot of us are thinking today.  Starks will be missed, but theres still some football to be played, And I think he would be the first one out there pushing the others on.
