Buffalo Bulls Basketball / The BIG question?
« on: February 12, 2018, 11:00:08 PM »
Can our guys play defense for two 20 minute halves????

In my opinion this question will decide what happens this season. We were playing great defense when we were rolling. We got turnovers and scored easily in transition off that defense. It’s no secret but our D has been uniformly sub par the last seven games or so.

To be sure other factors such as free throws, good judgment with passes and getting in the lane, taking good shots, etc.

I really want us to get back where we were. Hopefully getting revenge tomorrow against Kent. Go Bulls!

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Northern Illinois now
« on: February 10, 2018, 04:59:18 PM »
It seems like the fan base is as excited for today’s game as the team. Through the first media time out 7-7. The guys look lethargic. CJ two missed FTs and a lay up in the early going. A couple bad turnovers as well. Can’t let a bad team hang close. If they do they get energized and give the upset a real run. Plenty of time to turn it around. They need a spark.

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Jeremy Harris
« on: February 06, 2018, 11:51:07 PM »
How about having a Harris appreciation thread?! He struggled early in the year and many here thought he wasn’t ready nor would he be of any help this year. Bravo Jeremy!! It’s easy to hang your head when things aren’t going well sending you into the funk spiral. Not only didn’t he do that but he persevered kept working his arse off and arguably is now our most important player. We should also recognize his teammates and coaches who obviously kept their faith in and continued to support him. Just one more reason why I love this team, its coaches and each player.

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Toledo at Akron on CBSSN at noon today
« on: February 03, 2018, 12:07:58 PM »
Interesting game today. Akron has lost two in a row. Before that they had win 4 of 5 and the thought was that they were coming on. This is a great opportunity for them. Toledo coming off a convincing loss at home to Ball State. This is a pivotal game for both teams.

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / I really appreciate this team
« on: February 02, 2018, 08:52:36 AM »
Oats has constructed a true team. They are far from perfect and I have been critical at times about their lack of intensity, urgency and bad decision making. But I see something in these guys that is the exception in the game of basketball these days. Way too often the game has morphed into a game of individuals seeking personal attention rather than a collection of individuals coming together playing unselfishly and for each other so that the sum is greater than the total of its parts. We don’t see any ridiculous showboating or anyone trying to flex or acting in a boastful way. The worst that can be said is that Perkins lost his cool at the end of last game. Even that was minor and the only time all year that happened so he has matured and is becoming a better version of himself.  They will decide how when and where the season concludes. The potential is there. They just have to seize it every day by working their arse’s off, sticking together and realizing that this once in a lifetime opportunity will pass all too quickly that they must treat it as such and not take anything for granted. The road to the big dance starts tonight. Carpe Diem!!

As an aside, our dearly departed Shannon Evans made realize how special our guys are. Evans boldly proclaimed to the world a few days ago that ASU was the best team in the PAC despite their 4-5 conference record. In true fashion for braggadocio types they couldn’t match their boasts as they lost another conference game last night to go 4-6 in conference. While I wish them success I can’t say I miss that type of player even being as good as some of them were. And of course the Kent players have acted foolishly many times as we saw the other night and a few years back with their “where is the cheerleaders” chant before we blew them out of the gym.

Moral of the story? Let’s apprrciate this team for the way they play the game which as far as I’m concerned is the way it should be. Go Bulls!

General Discussion / Be Bold!?
« on: January 30, 2018, 02:44:44 PM »
Just received this email from Satish:

Save the date as we unveil
launch a historic new campaign
for the University at Buffalo.

Friday, April 27, 2018
6 p.m.
Alumni Arena
North (Amherst) Campus

Obviously some kind of special announcement; begs the question, what does "Be Bold" represent?

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Akron v Ball State on CBSSN right now
« on: January 27, 2018, 12:29:47 PM »
Watching the game before heading over to Alumni for ladies game. Pretty ugly game thus far with a lot of turn overs and poor shooting. Learned something about Ball State I didn’t know. A red shirt freshman committed suicide last summer. Sad! And they just dismissed a player for violating team rules while another is suspended for domestic battery.

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Congratulations Nick Perkins

1,000 career points as a junior is very impressive! Boy we hit the jackpot with Perk and CJ three years ago! I’m not sure when or if we’ve ever had a more successful same class four-year duo.

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Cierra Dillard
« on: January 25, 2018, 02:19:52 PM »
Love him or hate him, Jerry Sullivan penned a great article on Cierra.

We, the UB fan community, are very lucky to have not one, but two basketball teams populate by talented, team-oriented and great kids.

An interesting comment by Jack, we are out to make UB a destination program not just an option. I wonder if Dr. Tripathi is tuned into that sentiment.......

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Memo to Dr. Tripathi: PAY THE MAN!!!!!
« on: January 24, 2018, 12:15:50 PM »
This topic deserves its own thread even with a lot of excellent discussion under the EMU thread. The UB community needs to make its collective will kn own to the good doctor and those with influence and decision makers regarding Nate. Therefore, I hope everyone posts something on here and elsewhere so that a strong message is sent, even if it as simple as Pay The Man Dr. Tripathi.

Dr. Tripathi lost my confidence when he chopped four sports without any kind of warning to those affected. It showed a lack of understanding and appreciation for those involved with those sports and people like me who supported them. This is his opportunity to restore some of that faith. PAY THE MAN, Dr. Tripathi!!!

Nate is first class through and through! He is devoted family man. I know he appreciates the support and confidence the UB community has provided and shown in him, in both personally challenging times and good times, which thanks to him and his staff have been often.

He has accomplished much. He has proven himself to be a bull dog of a recruiter, an excellent coach and a leader of men. His success speaks for itself. Perhaps his most remarkable achievement was putting the pieces back together after Hurley tried to burn the program down in both word and deed. Nate didn't make excuses for the situation he found himself in, and went out and restocked the roster on short notice and beyond our wildest expectation produced an NCAA team his first year.

The team this year is breaking records. What happens going forward is anyone's guess, but with Nate at the helm coaching a bunch of selfless players who play for each other without regard for who scores the most points and gets the press clippings I am confident the best is yet to come.

So as UB75 suggested in the EMU thread, Dr. Tirpathi use some of the $2,000,000.00 you saved in handing down a death sentence to those four programs and PAY THE MAN!!!!

Despite some of our differences, I know we all share this sentiment. Go Bulls!

PS. While he's at it, he might want to give Felisha a bump in her pay too.

WMU was thought to be the best team in the west. They’ve gotten off to a shaky start in MAC losing at Kent Tuesday. They got off to a horrid start before roaring back to tie the game at 71 before giving up a put back as the time ran out. They got destroyed at Toledo losing by 30+ in a game that reminds me of our dismantling of Ball State. Both UB and Toledo no doubt viewed each game as a critical first step on the road to Cleveland. The Broncos gym is a dungeon that has caused problems in the past. Big game. If they’re dialed in playing with intensity I see another win. Go Bulls.

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / TBN article on Wes
« on: January 17, 2018, 05:09:35 PM »
I posted this on the sit him thread already, buy posting here so it stands out. This article provides an excellent insight into Wes Clark that all Bulls' fans should appreciate. It also discusses his current injury.

Though picked last in the east, Miami is off to an excellent start at 2-1 in conference play. It’s a two-fer. We win, we’re up 2 games and really three because of the head to head tie breaker. Lose and we’re tied for the MAC East lead and really a game behind with the head to head loss. The boys need to bring it!

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / CI Mid Major Top 25
« on: January 06, 2018, 10:37:51 PM »
Here’s the latest poll:

LMFAO!! Albany #3?!?! Seriously? They just lost their first 2 conference games to lower tier America East teams. Surprised by the lack of respect for the MAC. BSU only team in top 25 and near the bottom at that. Doubtful anyone outside the top 5 had a better win than them at Notre Dame. UB didn’t even receive a single vote. That’s pretty laughable too but I’m sure it has something to do with the lackluster effort against NJIT. I don’t know much about most of the teams in the poll but I’d hazard to guess we’d best most of them as would one or more MAC teams. It’s obviously a poll that is good for some laughs until conference play sorts the pretenders from the contenders.

Meanwhile see our old foe Keith Dambrot has Duquesne 3-0 to start A-10 play. Good for him!

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Wes Clark is now eligible per Jonah Bronstein

Jonah just tweeted that Clark is eligible and cleared to play tonight. Not sure what that means for tonight, but hopefully he  gets a chance to contribute and get some significant minutes..
