What? i went 3-4 today, Richmond upset UAB.

I still expect a UB-Iowa game for the 5th

UB should beat UAB

Iowa should beat SDU

Meaning they play.

UB's likely games -

Cincinatti - Richmond - Iowa

They should land them 5th or 6th overall, it's a really good field, and can't get higher than 5th if they lose to Cincy tonight.

Cool news.

I saw him on the bench and thought it was strange. UB also has two scholarships, one from Jones and one from Quate McKinzie. Good to see them use one on Hamlet.

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Re: The Buffalo News article on CBB transfers
« on: November 11, 2017, 10:55:45 PM »
The Buffalo News just wrote an article with an interview from all four Big 4 head coaches regarding the frequency of transfers in college basketball and I think it's worth a read:  http://buffalonews.com/2017/11/08/big-4-mens-hoops-coaches-on-transfers/

Nate Oats is quoted regarding a recent situation and he discusses without getting into specifics:

Quote
Oats: We had one significant transfer, and I agree with Chris 100 percent. Parents are the ones we dealt with getting it done here. When it became time to decide whether he was going to leave or not, it was somebody in his ear. His parents were adamantly against him leaving and didn't want him to leave. It was somebody else who convinced him that he could get X, Y and Z from somewhere else. He listened to them and, I think, regrets it. He tried to call back and come back, but at some point kids need to grow up and be their own man and not listen to mom and dad. Sometimes, the hammer changes, kind of like Chris said.

I'd have to imagine the "one significant transfer" he's referring to must be Bearden. I don't see any evidence Evans regrets his transfer (he just put up 50 points in ASU's exhibition game by the way) and I don't think McKinzie really had any other alternative. Interesting to hear a little more behind the scenes about what could have occurred.

100% it was Bearden. Evans/O'field/Graham were all Hurley guys.

"significant" has to Bearden. I mean the "hammer" is easy. It's WKU's team and coach. They sold him on #1 recruit and center Mitchell Robinson.

Bearden did just have 24 points in 30 minutes... off the bench in WKU's opening game loss to Missouri State.

Segu/Hamlet/Jeenathan William SIGNED (don't have to get audited again) today - shoring up a GREAT three man class.

Only problem? Who isn't suiting up next year? Still one too many scholarships.

I'm figuring a senior. Its not Dontay. He told me that "UB has an extra scholarship". He didn't elaborate what that means. Has to be Smart post injury right?

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Re: UB Picked 1st in MAC East Poll

UB came up short in overtime 80-72 against Rhode Island yesterday but by the sounds of it they held their own admirably. Rhode Island is a very good team (played without EC Matthews) and UB played without CJ Massinburg, Wes Clark and Ikenna Smart - haven't heard anything about why they sat out but I haven't heard anything concerning either. Great shooting percentage for UB who played tight defense. Of note in this exhibition they modified rules so that there was no fouling out, which explains the total foul count and some of the crazy foul #s on UBs side. Harris, McRae, and Reese appear to be immediate impact players and Harris may be our best player already. UB could be go small ball and be incredibly deadly with a lineup like Clark/Massinburg/Reese/Harris/Perkins.

Harris is such a monster.

Do we know if Wes Clark can play yet?

As well as 2nd overall.

WMU the top dog. With a 10-9 vote over UB.

This season should be fun.

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Re: Sr. Forward Gabe Agorgie - Final Spot

Curious as to why you think Caruthers would transfers. I think James Jones would be the most likely guard to transfer.
Why would somebody wait a year to transfer?  Transfer now and sit 2016-17, play next year.

You mean transfer now and sit 2017-18.

The implication here is a graduate transfer, not a traditional underclassman transfer. Both Caruthers and Smart are in their 4th year of college, so although they are classified as Juniors, theoretically either of them could graduate this year and either call it quits or take a graduate transfer somewhere and play immediately next season.

If you mean Jones, then no that would not make sense for him or any of the other underclassmen to transfer at this point.

Exactly, perfectly stated.

It's not Jones. He would have left already.

It's Caruthers IMO, he may be calling it quits, or moving schools. I think the former? Many guard recruits, however it could be Smart too I guess.

It's an announcement, not a transfer, so i'm going guard graduation and Caruthers is finishing this year. So he may not play his last year.

Hello, this is Nathan LeClair, CEO of Verbal Commits (and UB Class of 2016).

Certain messages have been popping up incorrectly in the Recent Activity box. I have been trying to get the webmaster to correct this error but he does not have the bandwidth to do so.

The messages may be wrong on occasion but the chart is correct. Agorgie is listed in purple, which indicates he's a walk-on.

Clark was a walk-on while sitting out last year and we've been unable to confirm whether he's received a scholarship for this coming season.

Thanks for clearing this up and popping on! Wouldn't that mean that UB has 2 scholarships for this season? I'd have to bet Clark received one for this year. Any insight into next years scholarships in which we have 1 too many?

Just confirmed Clark is on scholarship. They're at 13 currently, the max for this season (EDIT: they are at 12, not 13. They have one available scholarship for this season).

Curious to see what happens next year given the fact that they have 14 scholarship players next year. No idea what their plans are regarding that.
I think I remember riding a True Blue bus with you to Kent or Akron one year.

Question not related to this - how do you confirm everything that gets tweeted/put out?  There have been tons of instances of recruits either faking offers or getting deceived with fake offers.  Do you guys call up the school each time?

To not quote anybody.....
Where's the idea that Ikenna is gone after this year from?  If true, that makes our last 4 year basketball player Skeete (2015-16 senior) and next possible one Massinburg/Perkins (2018-19 senior).

Ah cool, yeah I went to both of those games. Those bus trips, specifically the Kent State one, were fun.

Took about two years to build but we have the network now where we can confirm/deny just about any reported offer. If it comes directly from the kid we'll reach out to sources and try to confirm it. It's not that these kids are outright lying. Many misinterpret what a coach intends. Kids will think an invite to visit campus means they've been offered; that's not the case. On the flip side, coaches can be vague with their wording. Have had kids send me messages that I would interpret as an offer.
Interesting.  Thanks for the insight.

Very interesting. I'd assume Caruthers. Especially with the guards they have been recruiting (Reese, Graves, Hamlet, Segu).

Interesting. I wonder if they use that scholarship this year? Weird we weren't able to find a transfer.

Do you know if Clark has full year or December eligibility? Some were saying he's spent his year already.

Updated with Gabe Agorgie

Seems like a pretty solid final 2017 roster.

Verbal Commits has his name highlighted in purple, meaning he is not a scholarship player.

They have Wes Clark as a walk on too. I don't think either are correct, considering they state:
10/9/2017 - JUCO SF Gabe Agorioge (6-4, 233, 2?) has received an offer from Buffalo.
