UMBC definitely stole the spotlight from us tonight. A well deserved congrats to them, but let's steal it back again tomorrow!

Sometime in the middle of the second half, both teams realized that this was a 16 vs 1 game and a 16 had never won.  It made UMBC play with excitement and Virginia play very nervous.  The coach kept taking time outs but they kept trying to hit contested shots.  Also, they were lost on defense in the second half...probably thinking "are we going to lose to a 16?"

The State University of New York.

Blue. White. Damn Right.

Really great to see some 10-16 seeds win games!!! The UMBC's, Buffalo, Loyola-Chi, Marshall and even Butler and Syracuse. Don't know if it will make a difference in who the NCAA selection committee picks as at large teams in the future but Dick Vitale did push for more mid majors to be selected but not sure if it will ever change. Go Bulls!!!!

Case of shoulda woulda coulda, but I really think we missed a golden opportunity to really do an amazing thing. Kentucky will play 9th seed Kansas and then will play winner of Loyola and Nevada. We would have been close to 50/50 the rest of the way. Final Four was there. That is crazy.

Man, only if some of those 3s didn’t clank off the rim. Ahhh.

Bearden and his western Kentucky team playing for a chance to goto NIT semis in MSG.
Watching him, still the best pure point guard skills I’ve seen in UB uni. Handle is just amazing. Although I gotta say Segu’s handle looked pretty sick on tape.

He left but I still have a soft spot for Bearden. Love his game.

He made a dumb move in transferring. But I wish him well!

WKU is in the NIT Final Four. What’s the story behind Bearden’s decision to transfer?

Depends on who you ask but there's been a lot of speculation as well as (some what verified) rumors that he regretted the decision and tried to come back but the staff decided it was "too late".

More rumor, but what I heard there were “people” in his ear talking up his nba potential and that Buffalo would hinder his aspirations so he decided to transfer without a high major landing place and ended up at western Kentucky. I also heard from reliable folks that he wanted to return but was rebuffed. Hey see what I did there. :)

For Bearden after he was suspended for a few games due to violation of team rules that changed his attitude and the thinking of the team. Another case of a player listening to people who think they have his best interests and in many cases it can backfire on the player. Him being suspended did not help his chances of going to a P-5 school or a school in a larger conference. Once he wanted to transfer I think it was the right move not to bring him back.

I watched most of WK’s game against OK St last night. Bearden is great but still has no mid range or outside shot. Don’t see him in the NBA, but he’ll play somewhere. Western Kentucky is a really good team, but he’s playing NIT...haha
