Althletic big who runs the floor, positions himself well on offense and has to be guarded behind the three point arc. He fits the mold.

Seems as though Dallas is the place to be this weekend for recruiting. Adidas Gauntlet regional site, Nike EYBL, Juco showcase, and NY2LA circuit all there. We offered a whole mess of kids from Detroit for 2019 per verbalcommits, many of which play for REACH Legends.

Is he eligible this upcoming year?

I wouldnt think so. Not if he's keeping his three years. He'd have to already be enrolled this spring.

He will be eligible in the fall to play 3 more years.  He apparently had one year at a JUCO.  He can enroll either in the summer or the fall and play now.

I thought you had to be two semesters out if you are a JuCo Fresh? Why couldn't Hamlet suit up this year in the same situation?

Fagan is an academic sophomore but a redshirt freshman in terms of eligibility. He started at a different JUCO last year but didn't play so he's presumably graduating this year and then eligible. Hamlet is also academically a sophomore but came here mid year without graduating so he had to sit until next year at which point he will be a redshirt sophomore eligible to play, same with Fagan.

This probably wasn't worth starting a new thread for but I just wanted to share that I saw Lamonte Bearden in Alumni Arena today.  From what I've heard he wanted to come back to UB after announcing that he'd transfer but Oats wouldn't take him back because I believe we already signed Davonta Jordan at that point and had no scholarships.  Bryan Hodgson tweeted earlier today "Grass isn't always greener on the other side, it's greener where you water it."  Not sure if this will amount to anything or if Bearden was just visiting old friends but we still have an open scholarship and since Bearden sat out a year at WKU he'd presumably be eligible to grad transfer.

Not sure we'd want him back or he'd want us back.  Guard minutes are extremely limited and we cannot afford to have a wild card of getting caught for weed again.  I think we're best off without him and he's best off without us.
So, thunder through, Go Blue! Give a Cheer, never fear!

Smart is transferring to Wake Forest. Would that free up his scholarship for Bearden?

He has one year of eligibility and unless a graduate transfer he has to sit a year, which would his last year of eligibility.

True on all accounts.

He would be a grad transfer. He already spent 4 years in college and should be done at WKU. He'd be eligible anywhere for his final year.

I wonder if we are considering it, because it'd be super cool.

As much as I love Bearden, I wouldn't risk 1 year of Bearden for the risk of losing Segu.
We need to have a plan going forward.  Bearden will be great for 1 year, but after that, it'll be bare especially with the possibility of a coaching staff turnover.  Segu will want to get minutes now.

I agree with admin. I liked Bearden’s play when he was here but we are stacked at PG. I’d rather continue to pursue another big for the last scholarship rather than stretching our guard’s minutes even thinner.

I agree...guys leave programs for a variety of reasons, with playing time being near the top (if not the top).  The guys we are bringing in, presumably, were told that they have an opportunity for quality minutes right from the start.  You don't bring in another player like Bearden who wants/needs the ball.  If he goes somewhere else (other than WKU), I hope it is not a MAC team!
The State University of New York.

Bearden had a good year with Western Kentucky. His forte is getting to the hoop and finishing or dishing. Outside game is still substandard. CUSA is a good conference. I can’t see him trying to come back here, nor would I expect Oats to offer him a position. We already are loaded at guard. Good luck to him and Western Kentucky next year.
