Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Re: Finances for the tourney

From this it looks like women’s bball do not get paid extra for NCAA.
https://www.courant.com/opinion/op-ed/hc-op-zimbalist-women-uconn-basketball-ncaa-0330-20170329-story.html

So it is up to increasing attendance next year for women to increase revenue. I highly doubt FLJ gets a big raise. Maybe a small one. But I also doubt other schools will pay much more.

Ok I just read an article and it wasn’t zone that kstate used but it was man but with helping. So it almost looked like zone because there were always multiple guys around the ball.

Regardless, we need to improve our defense next year. Maybe not rely so much on just one on one matchups. It will work in the MAC since our guys usually have a physical advantage but we will need to come up with a help scheme or zone to disrupt the action.

I’m more convinced now that we employed the wrong strategy against Kentucky. We should have gone zone. Not sure what that defense I just saw from kstate. It was some type of hybrid man zone. It worked against Kentucky. They totally shut down SGA and Diallo.

Next year please practice a little zone. We need to use it from time to time.

Wow Kentucky goes down. Shai GA has a horrible game. The team played like freshmen.

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Finances for the tourney
« on: March 22, 2018, 09:44:19 PM »
Does anyone know if we actually made money by going to the tourney and this year winning 1 game.  I think we share the revenue with the rest of the MAC, but I would think we also get more of it.

Also on the women.  Do we actually make money with going to the sweet sixteen?  I would think the women actually will bring in revenue this year.  2 big wins in the tourney and going to the sweet sixteen.  Anyone know the numbers?

Adam Zagoria is talking up Oats as option B for Pittsburgh now that Dan Hurley is headed to UConn. I forgot how awful this wait and see game feels.
Wasn't really nervous about this, but at $3 million/year, could that be the crazy offer Oats was referring to in his interview?
Hopefully not. Hopefully that was like a Kentucky, UNC or Duke job opening up.

Great Hire.
Great Timing. Now he needs to lay out the vision to Oats and Jack.  Sell Sell Sell.

Bearden and his western Kentucky team playing for a chance to goto NIT semis in MSG.
Watching him, still the best pure point guard skills I’ve seen in UB uni. Handle is just amazing. Although I gotta say Segu’s handle looked pretty sick on tape.

He left but I still have a soft spot for Bearden. Love his game.

Wow that was fast and sudden.

Also not only that but they basically played 2 games at a disadvantage playing against Florida teams in Florida. I can’t explain this.

It’s a remarkable run.

To be honest, I kinda don’t pay as much attention to the women partly because there’s a bigger gap between the top schools and mid majors. Perhaps that’s changing with more girls playing at a young age but I just didn’t think upsets happen as much. Maybe someone who is more in tune with the women’s team can comment. It’s not scientific but from what I used to see was the bigger schools just crush the smaller programs.

Regardless this is really crazy. Thank you ladies for showing the men how it’s done.

Ahh, my son has a Stemfest.  Do we skip the science project and go for the game?
Dilemma, dilemma, dilemma.  Science project or Buffalo?  Arggg.

I hope you get selected for the halftime, half court shot (again)!
Ha!  You remember that?

Wow. Congrats. I hope the game is early. Have to attend a wedding at night. Albany is a 2 hour drive from westchester.

Had to rewind and see what happened in this game.

Overall UB played with lot of grit. As well as Kentucky played, we had a shot to win. Some key plays changed things around.

A play which I think changed the game happened at the start. It was when Shai G took Jordan off the dribble. Jordan played him very tight and Shai pushes him. A foul is called on Jordan. This is a 50:50 call but the refs were not going to give this to the defense on this night. This sets up the whole game. Jordan is forced to give Shai space and Shai has a career night. Maybe he’s actually the best PG in this years draft, I would certainly take him over Trae Young. I believe the game would have been different if that foul went to Shai. Jordan is caught in foul trouble all night.

Three point shooting first half. It wasn’t falling, we did shout ourselves out of it but we settled too much in the first half. It’s a double edged sword but I think hitting all those against Arizona hurt us in this game. We fell in love with it Instead of taking it hard.

Around the 12 minute mark (2nd half) UB is once again making a run. I think we bring it to 5. Kentucky is caught on a switch and a guard is on Perkins. Harris has the ball on the left key and instead of feeding Perkins he tries to take Gabriel off the dribble. He travels. Perkins is visibly upset. Part of the reason why I had to rewind to see exactly who was guarding him on that play. Kentucky comes back and hits a three. Back up by 8.

Diallo skies for a putback dunk. Afterwards, he goes a little overboard with the taunting. No tech is called. He continues to play with that same swagger the whole game. His best games as a wildcat.

Clark gets kneed by Gabriel boxing out. He just didn’t seem to have the same explosion afterwards.

We make another run and Clark find McRae for a beautiful should be dunk. McRae inexplicably loses the ball while going up. Was it a foul? Replays show no. On the next play, McRae is open for a corner 3. It’s an air ball. Again did McRae hitting that shot against Arizona give him that false confidence?

Around the 8 minute mark, Caruthers makes an amazing steal and drives for a fast break and 1. We cut it to five. Another Kentucky turnover and we are in transition. Instead of driving to the hoop we setup Harris for a 3.  It’s short and Kentucky comes back and hits a 3 and that was pretty much it.  Kentucky plays with energy and we look spent.

The casual fan will see the score and think Kentucky dominated this game. It was a dog fight and we fell short. In the same way, most will see the Arizona score and think we dominated. That game was also close.

I think you are absolutely correct. Forget that he only played less than a year. I can’t think of anyone that actually did more for UB Bball. It’s not crazy talk. He should be in UB Hall of fame. He gave us our first NCAA win. Without him, I don’t think it happens.

He is forever a Bull. For sure he’s not going to get welcomed at Missouri, so I hope he is remembered at Buffalo. He should be able to play overseas.
