So it looks like in the end, a win-win.

Evans got the mentor that he wanted, got to play at a "higher level," and made the NCAA tournament again.

I forgot exactly who got Evans' scholarship, but I really wonder if we would have gotten CJ if Evans stayed.  We wouldn't have needed another guard.  We've won some games since Evans left.  We might not have won an NCAA game this year if we lost all of Evans/Conner/Hamilton/DK/Pino/Johnson/Johnny in one year.  That would rival McRae/Harris/CJ/Caruthers/Perkins this year, though we wouldn't have been in that exact position if Evans stayed.

Play-in game, not NCAA tournament.

He was on that team as a favor to James Harden, who went to ASU and remains close with the team. Not difficult to throw somebody on the end of the bench for a week.

Evans had no realistic shot of making the NBA or playing meaningful minutes in the Summer League.

Seems like a personal favor from former ASU player and current Rocket James Harden to get him on the team.

There are a bunch of summer league guys that get 0-5 min per game.

Can I vote for Williams our incoming freshman?

Nobody on this current team - Harris would have the best shot but very unlikely and def not drafted.

Perkins in my view has even less of a chance. College bball is flush with tweeners who don't have a position in the NBA. What is Perkins position in the NBA? Like a 4 who will give us a few inches?

CJ is not quick enough to stick with NBA guards.

All of these guys can play in Europe.

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / How far from AP Top 25 votes
« on: January 26, 2018, 03:16:14 PM »
I wonder how many more wins we need to string together to get some votes in the poll? Not expecting to actually be ranked, but votes would be a great sign.

I'd have to imagine if we get to 20-5 and 12-0 in conference with this margin of victory, we'll get a few.

I think he wants to stay all things equal, but if somebody approaches him with a $1m/year job like Hurley has, that would be very hard to turn down.

Making $500k/year or whatever we can raise him to is great money, but there is a massive difference between $500k and $1m. Especially when the window is short - what if we disappoint next year and we miss the tourny a few years? All of a sudden that Oats shine is gone.

Big guys develop late, but so far Bertram looks like a good who was good in high school because he was 6-9 inches taller than anyone else on the floor.

We currently have a TON of guards for next year. Each of the three incoming guys are all guards, not to mention everyone on the current roster. If somebody is a transfer I hope it's a guard.

I think the group collectively needs to admit there is little understanding of how the scholarship math works.

Two weeks ago everyone was convinced we had a transfer coming and now we added another player?

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Marcus Keane entering NBA Draft
« on: March 15, 2017, 07:25:00 AM »
Reports out overnight that Keane is entering the NBA draft officially.

Good for UB, not a great decision for Keane. Likely UFA or late 2nd round pick, not a great chance of making a team in my opinion.

Just to put a bow on this...

ASU finished 8th of 12 in conference with a 7-11 record. Beat USC, all the other conf wins against teams below .500.

Torian Graham was named Honorable Mention All Conference despite being the 2nd leading scorer in the conf

No post-season awards for Shannon Evans, despite being compared to an All-American by Hurley.

For us that have been around a while this was like a road game from the very early 2000 seasons pre Turner Battle. Frequently got rolled by 20 plus on the road. Felt like a D2 team vs D1.

Come on that's not Hurley's verified Twitter account. Can't be that gullible.

Anybody can create a twitter account with any name, that is why you need to see that the user is verified.

Big blow for our former coach - his 4* freshman and top ASU recruit since James Harden abruptly decided to transfer mid season
