Buffalo Bulls Football / 2018 Win Total For UB Football
« on: August 09, 2018, 12:02:07 PM »
Last year we won six games.  I ran the poll last year and the pre-season predictions were as follows:

N = 19

Mode:  4 - 5 wins
Median:   4 - 5 wins
Mean (weighted):  3.34 wins

Let's see what the fan base thinks about things this year.

During the last several months there has been a lot of optimism surrounding our UB Bulls football team for this fall.

Someone that has a less optimistic view posted a MAC East report recently and it is worth a read.

Note that if you prefer to make "a good thing even better" (as per Lisa Simpson), Bovada has UB's win total o/u at 6.5.  I don't think I have read a single prediction from any fans that gave us less than 7 wins

General Discussion / American Athletic Conference

On one of the selection shows last night, one of the commentators make a quick observation about Wichita State, but he was right on the money.  Wichita State won their conference a few years ago and were made a 10 seed.  This year, in the AAC, they finished second and were a 4 seed.

WMU and UB could not find a bowl home for their 6-6 teams.  The MAC has, probably, the worst bowl tie-ins of all the G5 schools.

Toledo didn't even get an NIT bid yesterday.  A team that finished second in the MAC and finished runner up in the tournament.  That HAS to get you into the NIT.  But it didn't.

As much as I think UB is so much better of a fit for the BIG 10, I may not live long enough to see that.  But we have to say good bye to the MAC if we want any college sports relevance.  A good next step is the AAC.  After all, they had the football national championship winner this year (at least according to their license plate...)

Hustle Belt is reviewing the MAC recruiting class, from worst to first.  UB was up first. had UB's class at 137.  If you think that is high, you are right.  There are some FCS teams ahead of UB.

My son found this.  I have made him a UB fan by extension.  He has been with me to the Q for both victories and has been to several UB road games.

For UB, I think this is probably the reality.   Need a bracketbuster game!

I knew UB was off to a good start, but that line is a little high.

Buffalo Bulls Football / If we get to six wins, will UB get a bowl?
« on: November 17, 2017, 08:39:44 AM »
I know some of you have already done the math on this and can give some probabilities (including who we should root for to lose this weekend and next).  If so, here is a thread to explain it to the masses.

Thanks and go Bulls.

Buffalo Bulls Football / 2017 UB Football Win Predictions

About two weeks or so out...what do you think of UB's chances this year?  How many wins can you find on the schedule?

I know that someone said recently that the UB Athletic Dept. is knowledgeable about this forum and UBBullRun.  However, it probably isn't a good sign that there have been no posts about the UB-WMU game since yesterday morning, and that was to predict the score.   You see, even if we lost at WMU as expected, if there was any rational hope for a turnaround next year there would be discussions on this board (as there have been in previous years).  But there is nothing -- no one feels excited enough about the future to post anything optimistic.   And that is the biggest problem.

Anyone who doesn't see that there needs to be some real changes this off-season has their head in the sand.  The players don't really look ready to play (relative to previous years).

I read on UBBullRun that an article negative about the O/C got back to him (or he read it directly) and wasn't happy.  At least that shows there is interest from the fan base.  But now...people have moved on, apparently.   Likely thinking about how UB will do against Alaska (and when will CJ recover from mono...)

I am a fan.  I am an alum.  I watch the games when I can.  I bleed blue.  I thought we were past this as a school (i.e. Bottom 10), but we are now either the bottom rung of FBS (or have a good view of it from where we are).

Still...I have only one college team.  Go Bulls.

Inspired my Majortomxiii in the comments section of the article below, I began wondering at what point will UB be down 3 TDs?  First five minutes, first ten minutes, early second quarter, etc.?  I've watched UB football for about 25 year now, so this has all the feel of a game where we are down early by a big number.  Under Coach LL, motivation for the games seem to be a challenge and I just don't see UB matching the intensity of WMU, especially early.   WMU slept through their game at Kent last week, but I don't think UB will get the same treatment.  We'll see.

General Discussion / Cost of Athletics: P5 vs G5

An article and video today from ESPN on the topic.

There are also databases on sports spending in college (revenue, coaches salaries, etc.)

At the end of the video (if you make it that far) is a bit of irony, considering how the video starts..
