Meh. Nothing thrilling. The player's lounge looks kinda of lame but the hot tubs look nice. I don't think it would sway a recruit from Toledo or Western. BTW the barber shop is a waste of space. That will hardly be used

Nothing thrilling?  Look what we just built... it's no comparison.  In hindsight, this Murhcie Family Center is a joke.  We have no support, no funds and no chance of ever being anything more than a mid-major program that once every 10 years might make a bowl.  It's sad.

http://www.bullsblueandwhite.com/index.php/capital-projects/football-headquarters

oh goodness.  What a boring exterior.  I wasn't even aware that building existed. I thought they just revamped the locker room and offices under the stands.  We have the second largest student enrollment in the MAC and UB is in the largest city of all MAC teams.  We surely can do better than this but as you stated above we have no funds for improvements.  I am a little fuzzy on UB2020 but can anyone share what happened to that initiative?

UB2020, basically got blown up at the eleventh hour when the other University Centers (Albany, Binghamton, and Stony Brook and NYS Politicians) saw what UB was going to get and started screaming "What about us"  even though they didnt do any of their own legwork.  So in the inept way that this State always does everything, they all settled for a bastardized version, called SUNY2020, and is basically  10% of what UB was going for.

So any athletic improvement plans that originally part of the UB2020 plan (included a fieldhouse), while it may still exist in theory as a building project, those have been pushed to the very bottom of the list, almost to the point of pipedream.

And now Kendal Briles (Baylor OC) is joining Kiffen at FAU.......soon to be renamed Last Chance U.  Should be fun to watch, as long as the coaching staff at FAU doesn't implode.

Well at least we'll get to see what a real offense might look like, while UB's OC thinks they're playing tiddlywinks

15015 tickets sold! did they have 1000 people last nite?

Counted the East Grandstand during the 2nd Quarter.  125 people (only included fans in the seats)  Considering the West side was about the same, I'd say less than 300 people.  I didnt include anybody that had to be there, cops, ushers, the band, cheerleaders, dazzlers, staff etc.

Thanks for reporting verandaman.
Great to hear the QB was good.

It's great that there's a strong sense of community among fans.  You got to test drive a toy?  What was it a motorcycle?

It is an extremely unique blender.

Looks might be deceiving, is all Ill say

Verandaman,

You travel the country watching endless college football games and although you say you've met a ton of people who know what UB is, I'm sure they're also the type of people who could name all 11 Sun Belt schools.

As for Buffalo vs NY,
My opinion remains the same as always. Buffalo is not a brand that anyone east of Rochester is going to get behind or care about. The name Buffalo is synonymous with losing, bad weather, and being near Canada. I've said this a dozen times already but I grew up in Albany and it was universally accepted that Buffalo was at least an 8 hour drive away and you needed a pack of sled dogs to get there (this is probably also the reason that I even ended up at UB since I was one of your prototypical "I need to get as far away as possible" prospective college students). I never went past Syracuse one single time in my childhood because in my mind that was like going into the Badlands. However, I committed to the school on blind faith and it only took a few days of living on south campus to realize that every perception I had about Buffalo was completely wrong. It's a great town with a unique cultural identity, awesome food, and some great entertainment options. Not to mention, the weather is actually quite tolerable (unless you're in the south towns) and not really all that different from anywhere else in the northeast.

The problem though is that the city of Buffalo has embraced the inaccurate negative perceptions instead of attempting to eliminate them. It's almost like people in Buffalo relish the fact that everyone in the country thinks they're completely irrational for living there. All this has done is detach the city from the rest of the state and it is because of this that I think calling ourselves "New York" or "New York State" is the only effective method if we want to get people east of Batavia to actually pay attention to our institution and finally take the time to understand some of the good qualities that exist in WNY. And who cares if people in North Carolina see "New York" on our jerseys and think of New York City? At least it starts a conversation about our school that otherwise would never happen, not to mention you get to immediately correct them and explain how Buffalo is actually in New York state and then give them the standard spiel about "the largest, most comprehensive...". The second that these people hear New York, they're intrigued because it's a brand with tremendous value. We are incredibly lucky to have access to it and we should be taking advantage before other schools do. New York immediately makes people think we are a large, important school instead of a small regional college. It gets them thinking we possibly belong in the same sentence as schools like Rutgers and UCONN, instead of constantly needing to correct the constant misconception that we are more closely aligned to schools like Wisconsin-Green Bay and Cleveland State. This is the reality outside of WNY whether people want to accept it or not.

Ultimately, it would take years to develop but it would be a huge improvement for both our school and the city of Buffalo in the long run if the school was able to connect itself to the rest of New York State. Only then would we be able to attract a larger conference and be able to achieve the other pillars of the original NYBI. Without New York in our name, nobody cares. We could win the MAC every single year in football but people across the country will still see our school as an irrelevant midmajor.

Lastly, backing out of the New York Bulls Initiative is an utter disaster. All it does is show that UB tried to connect with the rest of the state and failed. Our own people shot down our attempt at expanding the reach of this university to the rest of New York because for some reason they are under the delusion that the city of Buffalo alone can support this institution. It can't. Buffalo will never fully support this school to the level of a major BCS school as long as there are 3 professional sports teams also in town. It simply isn't big enough. The AAC and other bigger conferences are a pipe dream for us unless we bring the state of New York to the table.

All your losing is the "Screaming NEW YORK" logo.  Everything else about NYBI is going to be continued WITH the full force of the Entire University behind it.  White always talked about telling UB's "story", but he was trying to do it on their own with athletics, and IMHO, it had no bark to its bite without the University behind it sharing that vision.

I dont know if you heard what Tripathi had to say, but he specifically said that UB, The Entire University, has to be bold in telling what UB is all about, using the AAU status, being the most comprehensive and largest, etc.... that we always talk about, but being louder and bolder and UNIFIED in telling UB's Story to the State, the Nation, and the World.

This has more potential to turn into better things.  If they truly do what they say and are bolder with it, eventually "New York State University" is going to start ending up in people mouths, and hopefully it rolls down hill from there, especially with the Entire University on board and running with it.

But, when people from outside of Florida hear "Florida", nobody thinks Florida City.  Berserk makes the exact point that I've made since we put the "paragraph logo" on everything.

I think it was JoeyRattlesnake.

Not sure if you're agreeing with/supporting me or not, but I guess that's not important.

I also think another way to explain it is you have New York City and New York State.  When you say New York State you are referring to the actual state of NY.  "I'm from New York state", is away I sometimes quantify being from NY but not NYC.  If you say NC State or Florida State, it is inherently known you are referring to the University, not the geographical place.  I get it, I want us to be known as the STATE flagship school, but it's difficult to change a brand midstream.

Yes, we are agreeing

Just curious: how life threatening is that collapse? Would it crush you or could you still crawl out from under it?

According to the article, the bigger danger was the lights attached to the roof, not the roof itself.

Danny White was good for UB, better than Warde IMO. But it was obvious that many didn't care for his new-fangled ideas. Danny is going to a school that wants to rise in stature, has terrific facilities in place already and won't obstruct their AD from his vision over some butthurt issues. (I know no one will be complaining about the lack of "Orlando" in the UCF brand.)

For the love of god, no offense, but would you knock the father off with this "White's leaving us because WNY didn't buy into NYBI hook line and sinker."  If thats not how your intending it, fine, I stand corrected, but this is how its coming across….

If you want to blame anybody for anything, blame the fact that SUNY and New York State has put UB in this position that it can't step beyond the other University Centers.  If anything his holding back NYBI, its that UB as a whole, athletics included, has to work within the confines of what New York State/SUNY tells them.  So if you want to see change, direct your ire where it belongs.

Besides, if White is so thin skinned and his ego is so bruised because of WNY and the reaction to it, that he takes his ball and bails on it this quickly, Why would you want him as AD anyway….

And lets make something perfectly fathering clear here…..  White is CHOOSING to leave, he's NOT being run out the door like some people want to believe, lets not forget that….

I don't think White has done that great of job, in my opinion

What makes you think that? The increased number of Championships across the department?
I think we should rehire all of our former coaches back.  Yay for settling for mediocrity!!

I don't know about you, but I'd take this again….and White had nothing to do with this

If you're talking about Turner Gill, that is about as relevant as me bringing in Bobby Hurley into this.  Both coaches left for bigger schools after winning a MAC Championship.  Although if you're talking about winning MAC Championships in general (which is a legitimate point), we won 3 in the last school year and there's another one on the line in 45 minutes.

Sorry but there's two sports that most of us will agree are driving the bus when it comes to athletics, football and men's basketball.  In the case of those two sports, White and his predecessor both have 1 MAC Championship each.

I think this game is incredibly important. This is the exact type of game that, historically, we've been competitive in but haven't been able to pull out a victory. We do it every single year and we've already continued the trend this season with PSU, Nevada, and BGSU. I want to see us finally get over that hump and beat a solid team. I think we have the horses to pull it off but we just need to change the attitude and culture around the program.

Amen, Amen, Amen....

I dont really want to wait around resting on our laurels waiting for the games against Akron and Umass to gain bowl eligibility.  How about they just go out tonight and take it, earn it.

Its seriously the type of game, If they win, its a changer, and it tells the MAC, "We're coming"
