Football Recruiting / Re: 2014 - QB Chris Merchant - Verbal
« on: July 12, 2013, 12:19:00 AM »
The Quarterback University Invitational saw 14 signal-callers from places such as Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Canada come to Plymouth, Mich. for an intense showcase on Sunday.

1. Chris Merchant, 6-2, 180, St. Andrews College in Aurora, Ontario, 2014

“He was very polished,” Dooley said. “He had nice velocity on his throws. He was very accurate.”

"I chose Hargrave because Coach Hamilton is an extremely good coach and he knows what it takes to get to the next level. I believe with the hard work I'm willing to put in that when I leave Hargrave I will be glad I made the decision to go there," the 6-foot-1 Evans told VirginiaPreps.com.

The inexcusable play in that sequence was the spiking of the ball after a first down inside the ten. It was a wasted down given that the clock stops for every first down. The unforgivable part was that the players recognized this and got to the line in time to run a regular play, but the coaches over ruled them.
Doesn't the game clock start back up after a first down, as soon as the ball is set?

Yes, making it somewhat wasteful, but hardly inexcusable.

Better to 'waste' that down then try a hurry up with the wrong personnel on the field..

No, it would be better to run a play with the personnel on hand than waste a valuable down. It's not as if they were on the one and wish to bring on a jumbo package. The down is the most valuable part of the equation, especially because they also had a time out to spare.

back in Cali after sweating out the UGA game

5) Game call I liked: on 3rd down and short, they audible to a QB draw, it was wide open and went for a first down...what an amazing call by Quinn.
Game call I hated: Field Goal on the 1, we need every point we can get, I think putting in that TD sends a different message for UGA in the 2nd half, can't blame Quinn for playing it safe, but it was a great time to show some balls, and he missed it.

I looked at the size of the two rosters and was pleasantly surprised to see that our guys are just as big as Georgia's.  The only difference was their massive NT weighing over 350lbs.  Wow our Trevor Sales is going to have a handful.

Speed is another issue, but our guys will look just as big as theirs on TV.

A massive NT in the 3-4 defense is essential as an anchor. It's exactly what we don't have...

I hope his coach is right in his assesment:

“Once he gets into a program he's going to go from 265 easily to 300 and can dominate his first year,” Knox said. “He's going to be a monster.”

No Adrian Lindsey, but I'm more excited about the new LB name, Waylon Fink. Better size and looks like more speed.

A feature on our boy Fink:
