UB held a scrimmage tonight and the offense looked very sharp. Jackson had some great throws and looked very poised. He looks so much more confident this season. Hawkins also looks very fast and enveloped. Looking forward to next Thursday.

I think 6-7 wins is reasonable. It was interesting to hear how much the strength and conditioning was cut back last year after Solomon's death. We also have a lot of players returning, chemistry starting to form, and a QB playing for his second year with some growing confidence. LL knows he needs results this year and from what he's saying, the time and personnel are in the right place for some decent improvements.

I just figured it would be nice to have a thread for all news (local and national) being published about this year's team.

Here's a nice article about WR Anthony Johnson in tomorrow's paper. Can't wait for some UB football!

Buffalo Bulls Football / UB Fieldhouse - Buffalo News
« on: June 24, 2017, 08:47:17 AM »
In a rare show of support from the Buffalo News, they ran an article on the 5th page of the sports section today announcing UB is moving forward with the field house. They expect to break ground this fall.

Interesting that UB elected not to hold a press conference to announce the project. The News speculates they wanted to stay out of the spotlight because of the cuts, but I think it might have been a great chance for some good news.

I'm sure people would still have complained about the cuts, but every time I hear someone complain about the cuts, the first thing I ask them is to tell me how many tickets they bought or how much money they donated to support any of the sports they can't stand to see cut... The answer is always the same. As usual, Buffalo only pays attention to UB when it's convenient and continues not to support it regularly - it's a shame!

Well this is not sounding too good.  Gotta ask, if Hurley bolts, is there anyone on UB's staff that could keep this ship afloat and retain the incoming talent?

What do assistant coaches earn in the BE? If it's more than what UB would be willing to pay Oats, maybe Hurley entices Oats to fly the coop. There goes the Detroit pipeline. This is sickening.
None of this has been finalized yet, and we still get a nice buyout if Hurley leaves.

Also, from a purely silver linings perspective.... We not only get the $$ from his buyout but we also get to keep the additional fundraised capital we're currently earmarking for Hurley's new contract. Although I certainly don't want Hurley to leave, it is somewhat reassuring that for the new coaching search (if we have one) we now have the funds to target a potentially better coach and make him the highest paid MAC coach.

Just a thought.

I didn't know if anyone had seen this but UB athletics listed all of the watch parties across the country and organized them. There's also some good information for those of you who are lucky enough to be going to the game.

Tailgate concerts are still going on this year?

"White has not released any new promotions for the upcoming football season next fall, but he said he plans to return the Tailgate Concert Series and student tailgates." From the Spectrum article,

I don't have any site to reference for proof but I have it on good authority that tonights game is now officially sold out.

(The Ticketmaster site still shows a few seats available but like I said, I've been told it's official so I'm not sure why they're still on there)

Obviously much of the atmosphere tonight is still going to come down to the students being there. If they block out too many tickets for the students it would suck to see walk-up fans denied available seats.

We'll just have to blow the roof off the joint then won't we?!

Welcome back to the cockpit airman! You've been missed. I'm glad you're still flying, perhaps just a little more frequently now and in the future?!

Thanks 85! Good to be back on here. Unfortunately no I'm not flying but I am enjoying my newfound life in the private sector (and the wife is too!). Though it's never a bad idea to fly recreationally in the area for fun!

Also, I just received a text from a friend of mine who works at UB that Hurley is walking around the campus today handing out hats and prizes to students who say they're going to the game tomorrow. They're really cranking up the pressure on the students which is key. I agree that having 10,000 quiet fans does not beat the atmosphere we had for the Kent St. game a few weeks back.
It's all about the type of crowd, not the count of it.

this is the last game of the season--we can win the MAC east--we are going for 6 in a row, we ar playing entertaining basketball and we want a ticket deal--what is the cost of the game---the program/department is doing so many give a ways for special activities and they actually have to make some $$ to eventually build some competitive facilities

the white out is great for students --watch a michigan game watch a Michigan state game watcha duke game etc and etc---fantastic student environment and fun

Lets go out and beat them  Will be cheering in front of my computer in Chicago

Right on Mark. As of 10 am today 5,186 tickets have been sold for the game according to the UB ticket office. What's the record attendance at AA? I believe capacity is 6k, so with SRO I think we could surpass that tomorrow night. It would be nice to break the attendance record as well, whatever that figure might be.

By the way Mark Southwest has some cheap flights from Chi town. Hope on an early flight and I'll pick a ticket for you.

I'd encourage everyone to get a couple extra tickets and bring a friend or two who like basketball and see what we all hope is a stirring victory. And Squire let's make sure the better half doesn't keep you at home. I hope Clodney has resumed looking at flight options for Cleveland! And I hope Chubby gets to Santora's or whatever other drinking emporium he might select a little early so he fills the tank with  a little extra juice to keep the engine fired and revved  up throughout the game. Go Bulls!

it would be great to see them break the record but....

From, "A record crowd of 8,971 was on hand to watch the UB men's basketball team defeat Northern Illinois, 90-73, in a first-round Mid-American Conference Tournament game on March 8, 2004"

That being said, capacity of the arena is only 6,100 now because of the renovations about a decade ago, so setting a new record might not be possible but a sellout should definitely be the plan and expected.

Also, just checked Ticketmaster's seating map for available seats and there's only a bulk of seats left in 304 and 308. Almost all of the other 300 level sections are full.

Thanks for the confirmation Brook.

I hear you Verana! This Bulls BB team has been a lot of fun and march madness is always enjoyable but after that the off-season just crawls until the weather turns lol.
