10-2  4 straight during the “glory years”

I will come back in December to talk again.  Good luck in football this year. I will understand if you guys are distracted by preparations for the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.

Why would we want to drop football? We are on the verge of having one of the best years in our D-1 era, we put players in the pros (Khalil Mack), currently building a field house, have exposure on TV/ESPN which helps UB's brand to attract future students and we have income from the TV/MAC deal just to list a few reasons. Why not have both football and basketball AND be good at both? Your view is small minded. Just because Bonnies can't afford a football program doesn't mean we can't. We are the largest state public college, we can have football and basketball. This isn't Olean...

No it is not Olean.  Good luck in football that was an outsiders  view.  If you guys want to chase the football dream good luck. I have attended a couple of games in the past five years and have a different opinion.

As far as basketball your conference does not get at large bids.  If you win the conference tournament (which you will have a great chance to do this year). You will go to the NCAA tournament.  If you don’t you will be in the NIT.  Basketball success is tough to sustain in a conference such as the MAC.  If you keep football you can’t change conferences. Enjoy these times as they may be fleeting.

Baring injuries, I think that this year we can beat the Bonnies. I'm a little sad that we aren't playing Niagara, I always like to play the big 3, but oh well.

I don’t think you are winning in the RC, but come on down to Olean and enjoy a great atmosphere for the game.

I’m afraid we find ourselves in the same position that the likes of Gonzaga once found themselves, an up and coming mid major that no P5 conference team wants to schedule on the road.  Therefore it is imperative that we play the likes of Syracuse, West Virginia and Marquette (even if it’s on the road). But also find our way into some of these early season tournaments. Which is why I disappointed in the field for this Belfast classic.  But hey it’s exposure. That all said I’m ok with the schedule. Just wish we had better quality teams coming to Alumni. If not a P5 school someone better than a St. Francis.

And we better hope SIU is good, otherwise playing them twice will hurt us in the metrics.

You have had  a couple of excellent years.  Comparing yourself to Gonzaga?   Why would a power 5 team come to play you?  Drop football and try to get in a conference like the A-10 and then you can dream bigger.   You are set up for another good year drop the football and try to make the move now.

Really like what I’m hearing for OOC so far. Hopefully a decent early season tourney as well. Those trips are great for team building imo. Finally beating the Bonnies next year will help as well

Dare to dream!  Winning in the Reilly Center?

In reply to Buffalobonnie: arrogance seems to be the right word. I used to have a lot of repsect for Bona but it is baffling what they are doing. Case in point: At both the UB and Canisius games Bona does not come out for the player introductions and when the opposing players go to shake hands with the Bona coaches they wave the players off. I have not seen that done in all my years of going to college games. I have lost all repsect for Bona especially the coaching staff.I thought sportsmanship was important. I hope to never see that arrogance from our other teams. Go Bulls!!!

We are arrogant. When we feel the teams are worthy we shake their hands!  I AM JUST KIDDING ON THAT!!  The not coming out for introductions on the road is done by some teams.  It is an us versus the world sort of thing. I don't know if it is the right thing or not, but we aren't the only ones who do that. The not shaking hands I think you have misinterpreted.  One of our coaches does fist bump with the opposing player, but sometimes it goes into a wave. It is not meant as disrespect. It is the players choice as to whether they go the distance to complete the handshake.  Good win against Delaware the other night.  Massinburg is the real deal. Now I really am gone until next December.  See you guys in the Reilly Center.

I thought the scene was great but I think many games have had equally as good an atmosphere over the past few years. Hell, the Niagara games in Alumni are usually equally as energetic but it doesn't mean it's a "big game" necessarily. I guess I'm just sick of the arrogance that SBU has shown over the years based solely on the fact that they're in the A10. At least now they actually have a good team but in the past they sucked and thought that simply being in the A10 automatically put them above us. It was like dealing with Kansas football fans bragging about how good their team is because they play in the Big12. Remember a few years ago when Fordham fans thought they had a realistic shot at Bobby Hurley since it was such a "huge step up" from Buffalo?

The arrogance of SBU is not based solely on the fact that we are in the Atlantic 10.   Arrogance might also come from the fact we have won 7 of the last 8 against UB and hold an all-time record in the series of 10-2. It kind of is like the Bills-Patriots "rivalry".  If one team wins regularly is it really a rivalry?  It was a fun afternoon and I Look forward to many more matchups in the years ahead. Good luck in the MAC the rest of the way.  The more you win the better it is for us.

I think the problem you guys have is that some of your fans don’t realize the difference between the Mac and the Atlantic 10.  It would have been a huge win for you, but I really think you have a chance in the MAC.  If Perkins would like to come home with the Bonnies that would be great.  Massinberg is an A-10 quality player.  Did your students have tests to study for they left a little early?  Good luck the rest of the way.  The more you win the better for both of us.

If you also take a look at that last post responding to you I didn't mention the awesome conference we belong to.  It is called the Atlantic 10 a bit of misnomer as there are 14 teams in the conference.   ;)  I will now leave you  alone.  I hope the metro doesn't break down so that you guys can make it to games!!  Good luck the rest of the way.

we are better off not playing these three local private schools.

We need to think bigger.  These are not rivals and they do nothing for us.  We should be playing Stony Brook and Albany.

We should be hosting someone like Dayton, NC State, Davidson, or Nebraska down town.  These local teams aren't doing anything for us.  They are all risk and no reward.

CLodney This is what I was referring to.  I was assuming we were included in the three local private schools, but hey maybe he meant Daemen?

Let's start playing more home games to get fans involved.  I don't care if they are against D1 scrubs like Coppin State or good D2 teams.  Let's get the students involved.

We need to start building something.  I am sick of taking a back seat to St Bonas.  It is ridiculous that they can outdraw us all the time when they play in the country an have hardly any students.  We need to do better.

I know you guys get mad at Bona fans, but a post like this is one of the reasons that  it is hard to take you seriously.  You should be playing Stony Brook and Albany?  Do you think that these are high profile basketball teams?  All risk and no reward for who?  If you like it or not Bonas plays in a lot higher profile conference than UB. A-10 currently ranked 7th MAC ranked 20th.  (I'm not going to argue Canisius or Niagara with you, but the MAAC rpi is currently ahead of the MAC)  I don't mind the series with UB, but it definitely benefits you more than it does us.  If you would like to see teams like Dayton, Davidson and VCU go to Olean you would have a good time and see some good basketball.

Yes.  I remember Dan Putney 6"9.  From Rochester, He played at Northstar Christian Academy and then transferred to SBU from MCC.  Had a few good moments for the Bonnies. Played during some lean years.

I have been a Bonnie fan for my entire life. My grandfather and father also attended SBU.  I'm done being a pain in the neck here.  Good luck to you guys the rest of the way. I will see you next year. I really like your coach. My only problem with him is that he looks a little like Doug Gottlieb, but he definitely knows what he is doing.

There we go a little spirit from UB!   Good job guys!  You would have brought more fans if you could have gotten more than one bus?  Was there a bus shortage?  Cars available?  It will be interesting to compare the crowds for the Big 4 classic. I would expect a strong UB contingent.  Will there be more than one bus available?   We have had our issues with Siena the last few years, but we do lead the all time series 29-9 with them.   If UB was ever in a tourney where they beat Rutgers, Villanova, Oregon, and Houston maybe they would celebrate it also.  Let's see if we can keep this going it is fun!
