Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Re: EMU Game (1/23 - 7:00pm)

It isn't Thompson's offense that is threatening. He plays the crucial role in the center of that 2-3 zone which has been a struggle for us in the past. I think this year is much different since we have the outside shooting and slashers needed to break that zone apart, but I still don't like playing against these gimmicky schemes. It's like playing an option offense in football.

Well that's great news if Raven is gone! They always have talent though, just not depth.

Huge trap game. EMU is one of the most talented teams in the conference and James Thompson IV is IMO the best big in the MAC. He had offers to Oklahoma, Florida, OSU, Texas A&M, etc... and was originally committed to South Carolina. He is an incredible shot blocker and he fits the Syracuse-style zone defense perfectly. They also have Raven Lee who can get red hot and put up huge points. We need to beat this team on fast breaks and keep up the pace. From the sounds of it there will be a decent crowd so let's hope the Bulls have some intensity in their game early.

Went to the game yesterday.  The Pats fans were great.  They did not bother the couple of groups of Jaguar fans sitting around where my seats were (200s on the near side left corner) as you watched television.  Lots of tailgating with no one breaking tables or setting themselves on fire by jumping in flames.

Yeppp....that sounds about as lame as a New England tailgate. Did you try their brie cheese platter and Zima cocktails? Those guys know how to party.

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Re: CI Mid Major Top 25

This is one of the most biased, garbage polls out there. Every single year Will Brown is one of the coaches that is polled and every single year Albany is completely overrated. They have the second worst KenPom ranking (#151) and by far the worst RPI in the entire group (#170!), yet they are still somehow ranked at 23rd. We have the highest RPI of any team (#30) in the poll and the 13th highest Kenpom (#96) and we didn't even receive a single vote up until this week. It has been this way for years and it should never be referenced as a legitimate poll. It highly favors low-majors over the true mid-majors.

General Discussion / Re: Gotta love Danny White

I seriously don't understand the irrational sour grapes that come out of Buffalo. Every single college football fan that I know is currently rejoicing in Danny's decision to fight for the little guy and celebrate the national title that his team just flat out earned, yet people in Buffalo are still so butt hurt over NYBI that they're calling it an "ass move". You do realize that his decision to name UCF the National Champs is stirring up a ton of criticism over the current system which doesn't allow G5's any chance whatsoever at competing for the National Title - essentially making G5's irrelevant in FBS football. You also realize that UB is a G5 school, right? We are slowly being relegated out of FBS football altogether by the P5 schools, but Buffalonians could care less how irrelevant we are so long as we call ourselves "Buffalo".

As for Danny leaving UB. I agree that money was a factor but it's ridiculous to say that it was the only reason he went to UCF. The guy had serious ties into ACC and SEC country and very easily could have held out for a much better offer than what UCF could afford. He took his best option at the time and bolted because he realized this school had no hope for a major athletic department. SUNY wouldn't fund a damn thing, the donor base was very limited, and blind pride kept Buffalonians from supporting the only marketing tactic that would ever make the school relevant outside of WNY. Many factors drove him out of town.

How did we ever let this guy get away? He's incredible.

Buffalo Bulls Basketball / Re: Toledo Game (1/2 - 7:00pm)
« on: January 03, 2018, 09:15:12 AM »
Not a bad display overall. Toledo looked like they were trying to beat us at our own game pushing the tempo but it led to turnovers. If they hadn't shot so well then it might not have been nearly as close. Conversely, had we shot our usual FT% we could have been in for a rough night ourselves.

The sad attendance was indicative of the irrelevance of MAC games outside of the tournament. Even if the weather cooperated there likely wouldn't have been many people who would have cared enough to go out to a Tuesday night game against Toledo.

Yowzers, that crowd looks horrible. The people at the bar are laughing at me for having put it on one of the biggest TVs. What’s the deal?

Hooray, a game I have to go to the bar to watch.

We handled the interior very well against cuse. A&M a different story. They had much better players and athletes and many who could excel inside and they were missing their best player and three others. That is a potential final four team so losing is absolutely no disgrace and certainly no reason to say this team is a disappointment unless of course if you expect them to be a top 25 team. With that said though, last night's game was there for the taking. Too many ill advised shots, poor decisions, missed free throws and turnovers to win. When you add in the fatigue from playing two P5 teams within 48 hours and the stupid travel arrangements they acquitted themselves well.

I'm not saying last night was a disappointment. I'm saying this season has been a disappointment. We lost every meaningful game on the calendar: Cuse, Cinci, A&M, St Bonnie. We even found a way to lose our scrimmage against URI. I really thought we had a team that could win at least 1 of those games this year.

This team's a disappointment. I really thought this was the year that we'd win 1 of these big games and start to look like a true top 50-100 team. Instead, we looked like a bunch of toddlers trying to play a pickup game against their fathers. I know A&M is VERY good but how do you go the entire first half without 1 single point in the paint? That's embarrassing. Every time I heard the announcer say "3-pointers are all that this team does" it made me think that we basically have the talent level of an Ivy League school. We were so incredibly outmatched in size and skill inside the paint that all we could do was push the ball around the perimeter looking for open outside shots. I guess I was just under the impression that we had enough talent that we didn't need to play Reggie Ball anymore.

I've said it in the past for both football and basketball, IMO I could care less about beating mediocre MAC schools. What's the point? Nobody else in the country cares who wins our conference, and we only care because it means we then get to go to the tournament to play power schools again. We really need to find a way to knock off some of these big schools and put our program on the map. Simply getting to the tourney doesn't mean crap anymore.

This is what an actual top 25 team looks like. They are freakishly big and they aren't a bunch of beanpole like Syracuse. It makes it so much more painful thinking about that Cuse game. I'll be shocked if we keep it close in the second half given that we have no inside presence. We need to push the pace and try to outrun them if we want to have a chance.

I am going to call it now.

Not only is UB going to win tonight, they will win by double-digits.  They will have a great shooting night and A&M...not so much.

UB 82
A&M 71

Wishful thinking. The game that was there for the taking was Syracuse, not A&M. Cuse isn't even a top-50 team this year and they were completely unfocused for our game after their big win at Georgetown. A&M on the other hand, is a top-10 team that just played a tight game against NKU. They will be ready to go.

We lose every single one of these games. We will lose to A&M too, guaranteed. At least teams like Ball State gives their fans a HUGE win every so often. We've lost every single one and Cuse wasn't anywhere near as good as Notre Dame this year.

This was a HUGE opportunity which won't come again for quite awhile and there wasn't a better opportunity to catch a team while they're down. After years of supporting every one of our teams and being an active booster, I'm honestly getting tired of watching.
